Silver Beaver Nominations Accepted

Each year, upon recommendation of the Chief Seattle Council, the National Council awards the Silver Beaver recognition to deserving volunteers. This award represents thousands of volunteer hours dedicated to youth in Scouting. It is the highest award that can be presented to a volunteer at the council level.

If you would like to nominate a Scout volunteer to receive the Silver Beaver Award, complete the Silver Beaver Form and submit it to your District Silver Beaver Selection Committee or district executive before November 9th.

Tell us about your Good Turn!

All packs, troops, and crews which have conducted any type of community service during 2007, including Scouting for Food, are requested to report their service as part of the Good Turn for America initiative. This also includes service rendered on behalf of Eagle Scout projects. Please take a few moments and record your service by clicking here.

Young American Award Applications Accepted

First presented in 1968, the award is given to young adults between the ages of 15 and 25 who have achieved excellence in the fields of art, athletics, business, education, government, humanities, literature, music, religion, science, or service and have been involved in service to their community, state, or country that adds to the quality of life. Membership with the Boy Scouts of America or Learning for Life is not required for consideration.

The young adult selected will be recognized at the next Chief Seattle Council annual celebration. This person will then be considered for one of the five national Young American Awards that will be presented next May at the National Annual Meeting in Washington D.C. These five national winners will receive a $5,000 cash award and receive free travel/lodging/meals for the National Annual Meeting.

District uniform collection competition

On now through December 14th, 2007

In the spirit of giving, the Chief Seattle Council is launching a district wide search for Scout uniforms that can be used by the more than 4,000 young men and adult leaders participating in Scoutreach programs.

Shirts, pants, belts and current issue Scout handbooks in good condition will all be considered for credit toward this contest.

During the months of November and December, gather up uniforms and books from your pack, troop, team or crew and bring them to your district’s roundtable or to your district executive. Note your district name on tape on each item to ensure that you receive credit for it.

On December 14th at the council office, we will tally up the uniforms by district and declare a winner. A special prize will be awarded to the #1 district, and mention will be made in the e-Totem and the roundtables in January.

Your uniform donation will help a boy or adult leader in need. Thank you for sharing the Scouting spirit this holiday season. For questions, contact Jason Macpherson, jmacpherson@seattlebsa.org.

Program and Training Conference:

The 2007 Program and Training Conference was a great success providing top notch training to over 700 Leaders and youth.  Volunteers throughout the council came to together to learn and improve their scouting knowledge and went away invigorated and inspired. The Midway provided an exciting arena to display activities and opportunities for all Scouts. The bar has been set to a new high for a council event, and we certainly look forward to for next year

The Council was honored to have the keynote speech at the 2007 PTC delivered by Chief Scout Executive Bob Mazzuca.
